Policy & Practice

The policy and planning committee of the 2021-22 Washington State CEEDAR collaborative is working to conduct a landscape analysis of current policies at relevant state education agencies, local education agencies, as well as major initiatives that address the knowledge, skills, and availability of the Washington State educator workforce.

Goal:

Focus on identifying relevant and related state and local policies that impact the knowledge, skill, and availability of the Washington State educator workforce and then develop a strategic recommendations report.

This work is currently underway:

  • Identify and describe PESB and OSPI policies regarding educators, special educators, and education leaders who serve students with disabilities.
  • Identify, describe, and discuss major initiatives at OSPI, PESB, and ESDs that aim to inform, pilot, or develop policies pertaining to the state’s effort to prepare an educator workforce well-prepared to be effective in meeting the needs of all students, including those with disabilities.
  • Discuss, examine, and gather stakeholder feedback about gaps, overlaps, challenges, and opportunities related to preparing an educator workforce well-prepared to be effective in meeting the needs of all students, including those with disabilities.

In the coming months, the group will create a policy recommendations report that is informed by the landscape analysis

  • Compile data, policy, and guidance resources related to policies and initiatives focused on the state’s effort to prepare an educator workforce that is well-prepared to be effective in meeting the needs of all students, including those with disabilities.
  • Summarize the findings of the landscape analysis.
  • Offer actionable policy and planning recommendations for SEA, LEA, EPP, and building leaders related to the state’s effort to prepare an educator workforce that is well-prepared to be effective in meeting the needs of all students, including those with disabilities.
